Tell Congress: Stop the DARK Act & protect mandatory GMO labeling

The Senate released the newest version of the DARK Act, the anti-GMO labeling bill backed by Monsanto, the Grocery Manufacturers Association, and their Big Food allies.

The Grocery Manufacturers Association, the massive lobbying arm of the biggest processed and junk food companies, is looking to preempt mandatory state GMO labeling laws, and replace them with voluntary electronic or QR code for consumers to scan with their smartphones to find out if their food contains genetically-modified ingredients.

This "compromise" is a high-tech gimmick to keep Americans in the dark about what's really in their food. We're calling on Congress to reject this confusing scheme and require simple, mandatory GMO labels.

The text of the petition to Congress reads:

Americans have a right to know what's in their food, including GMO ingredients. Consumers deserve mandatory, clear, on-package GMO labels, not a complicated QR code scheme to keep Americans in the dark about what they're eating and feeding their families. Reject the DARK Act and protect mandatory GMO labeling.

This proposal by the the processed and junk food lobby is unacceptable. We must ensure the Congress in the interest of the over 90% of Americans who want GMO food labeled.
