The anti-GMO labeling bill, the DARK Act, is back — and it’s even more dangerous than before. Despite opposition from the public, this past summer 275 members of the House of Representatives voted to deny consumers the right to know what's in their food. This new bill now not only prevents states from passing laws mandating GMO labeling, it also could make it a crime to label foods “GMO-free.” This massive giveaway to Monsanto and Big Ag must be stopped before it becomes law. Tell the Senate to reject the revised DARK Act now.
According to the Environmental Working Group, the revised DARK act goes far beyond its original incarnation and would "end all claims related to genetically modified ingredients – including both mandatory GMO labeling and voluntary non-GMO claims."
This new bill would also prevent any local oversight of genetically modified crops and roll back state-level mandatory labeling laws already on the books, including Vermont's landmark law set to go into effect this July.
Monsanto is spending millions on lobbying efforts and is even bragging that they've contacted every single member of Congress to vote for this bill.
Last year, over 500,000 activists put a halt on the DARK Act the first time around. In 2015, you raised your voices to keep Congress from pushing through the DARK Act as part of budget legislation. We can do it again.
